EOCENE-MIOCENE BENTHIC FORAMINIFERAL SPECIES OF CHILE AND ARGENTINA, SOUTH AMERICA

Fourteen Paleogene-Neogene benthic foraminiferal species belong to fourteen genera from two countries in the South America (Chile and Argentina) have been studied. The modern taxonomical consideration of these species is used and are treated here as new. Eight species of these assemblage (about 57%) are recorded from Argentina: Tritaxia argentinica, Siphotextularia argentinica, Spiroloculina argentinica, Quinqueloculina argentinica, Brizalina argentinica, Pullenia argentinica, Buccella argentinica and Patellina argentinica. The other 6 species (about 43%) from Chile: Siphogaudryina chileana, Parvigenerina chileana, Planulina chileana, Cibicides chileana, Falsocibicides chileana and Gyroidina Chileana. The recorded foraminiferal assemblages of the South America, Southern Tethys indicates an open marine environment which represents neritic and below the neritic zones.
